Hello everyone,

I am a mechanical engineer and I am part of a multidisciplinary project that deals with uav, in collaboration with polytechnic of torino and Milan.
I was assigned the part of structural analysis (for static time) of the aircraft, resulting in fem analysis.
some aerospace engineers recommended me nastran and pastran.
not having any knowledge regarding these software (in fact also regarding the aeronautics, but I am acculturating), I prefer to move on solidworks and ansys.

the question is simple: given the purpose of analysis, structural and non-cyneto-dynamic, these last two software are suitable for analysis or would it be preferable to move on the recommended nastran and pastran?

Thank you!

1 - solidworks is only a cad with a module that makes fem
2 - nastran is a solutor, that is, a software that grins just accounts. patran (not pastran!!!) does as preprocessor (preparation of models, mesh, constraints, loads etc.) and postprocessor (analysis fem results) for nastran
3 - ansys does more or less the things of the nastran/patran couple.
4 - in carrying out a project you must think that you will have to collaborate and exchange data with others: what is in this case the most used software? this factor inluence strongly the decision!

first of all thanks for the prompt response.
I thought I would use solidworks (or solidedge) for modeling and ansys for analysis, but in fact I didn't consider your fourth point that seems quite relevant to me.
the problem is that having never used nastran/patran I should spend a lot of time just learning to use them...which I wouldn't mind at all, but the times tighten!

Thank you so much!!

I used both and I have to say that right now I prefer ansys.
on the composite with simplified interface has improved a lot (v14).
if then one makes the composite the "daily bread" , well then the composite ansys module prep-post "acp" is his death...
Good job

hi apologies if I write about this section but I don't have to understand how a post opens... to how much I understand you have already dealt with modeling composite on ansys.. I could ask you what question?
