you have some unspecified nature problem. my laptop with win 7 installed in July 2009 (!) the series of 28x48 holes does it in 9 seconds.

6950 has a big heat dissipation problem, let the oc stand unless you put a zalman or an artic with a nice pair of 12'' fans. I guess it's 6970 I mean you put the gpu at 880mhz. This however does not give you big advantages, especially in software where the computing power counts, not speed. the shaders of the 6970 will remain more.

remove the oc from the video card and update the drivers, check to have space on the disk (and also a nice defragmentation if it is not ssd can help), and why do you have nvidia physx on a radeon card?
