conversion stl to solid

Good evening to all,
I am looking for new customers and among the various estimates asked me to analyze a project.
they sent me standard parts to use for the job I have to anticipate.
the problem arises because they sent me some .stl files of pieces that were developed by another designer who now no longer collaborates with this company.
question:
according to you today which is cad or software (maybe there is a specific package) to convert stl files into solid so you can use them in a parametric cad?
I write in the section dedicated to catia because from what I know is very powerful on the modeling of surfaces.
I ask you please support because alternatively I have to refuse this job.
I should then deliver the job done with solidedge so I don't have many choices (unfortunately);
Thank you for your help.

Hi.
the stl files according to me you can convert them only in step to get a solid that then you will have to convert to solidedge format if you want to add new processing.

You can hardly change the basic geometry as you start from a stl.

if you are looking on the forum or google something should jump out.

let us know if you find interesting information and wolf for work

Hi.
I can tell you that catia has modules that give you the possibility to convert stl into solids
but you don't have the chance to parameterize them.
They are solids without history.
you can make changes using Boolean operations etc etc. and being solid even put at the table
However, complex operations
I'll attach you a couple of videos where you can get some considerations about your work.

--> also this video is interesting

thanks to all;@vittori :
inherent transformation would serve me a model without history as a .step that is an imported body file; But my goal is to be able to change it by adding cutting functions, holes etc. --> do you think this is possible? @dsw :
I have not yet tried why I read both here and in other discussions that the transformation through freecad on very worked parts goes to generate edges instead of curves; What do you think?
In any case I will try shortly.
someone talked about fusion360 but I don't know anyone who uses it;
I know who uses inventor; but the fusion360 package is included in other more professional autodesk installations or is it a separate software?
Thanks again! good weekend to all!

Yes, it is possible with catia
but I must say that the suggestion @dsw is very valid.
I tried now with freecad and amazed me for its simplicity.
Yes, they're a bit of mesh facets that aren't beautiful to see, and if you're gonna have to go
There are some limits.
Since then you have to work with solidedge, do a test.
downloaded freecad , which is completely free , and do transformations in step
to manage with solidedge.
fusion360 package
fusion 360 of autodesk is an independent software.
once for personal use was free.. Now it seems to me that you can rent

@dsw : I looked and ran the download; Unfortunately the free period is only 30 days.
I will activate the period when I have all the files so to the limit I will convert them together (if working);
Are you using free?
maybe I was wrong to select the type of use? Should I select the one for school/didactic use?

@gianniturbine I'm not sure, if you refer to fusion, the answer is yes, I use it for hobby.
if I don't remember badly, once the 30-day trial expires, it becomes for personal use (free) with all the limitations of the case.
