difference between .par and .psm in "pass to" solid edge

if in .par files there is the possibility to switch to "sheet metal" environment for sheet metal processing, why should I use .psm files for their creation?
Are there any functionalities that justify the use of a different extension?
it rarely happens that in a hurry duplicate codes like file111.par e file111. psmthanks to all of the attention

I apologize but I did not introduce myself, I am a designer who works in a manufacturer of automatic machines for the packaging of sealants in the province of ravenna; all I know about solid edge I learned about it by working and reading fifths of forums like this (I'm so excited about the community).
