export to stl format

Good morning to all,
I am a student enrolled in the last year of mechanical engineering at the Milan Polytechnic. for my thesis work I am using openfoam software, an opensource cfd. the geometry object of investigation is the recent etr1000 (trade name arrowrossa 1000) that I was supplied as catia assembly. having to provide geometry to openfoam, and reading the latter the stl format, I informed myself about the conversion of catia file to stl and I read that it is possible to convert in stl format only the part type files and not the product type files. do you confirm that you cannot export a product file in stl format?

I am aware that I can easily convert a product file into part with the command ''generate part from product' but unfortunately when I try this solution with the assembly of the train fails to convert everything and it gives me error. it would therefore be preferable if there was the opportunity to directly convert the product to stl without passing for conversion to part.

thank you so much for your attention and good day!

Good morning

Is this the procedure you used?

1) open the catproduct
2) get a cartpart from the product
3) open the created opening part
4) Slave by name and choose stl extension.

Let me do some tests and see if it's a software problem.

hello joshua662 and thank you very much for your quick answer!

The procedure is exactly that and I know it works because I did some tests with simple products. my problem is, however, that I can't turn into part the train+pantographs+insulators etc... so if I could avoid the passage to part it was better;)
But I fear that this is not possible

Hello, luca.

You should describe the type of error and send some images to understand and solve the problem.

it may be that the product you have passed has some missing part inside or some part with degenerated surfaces that produce some mistakes and it is about isolating it, or contains cgr that are not convertible etc.

or you could convert to step and check if the problem persists.

Let me know.

hello gianni and thanks for availability.

My assembly is made up of various parts but I only get error if I make the following steps:

- new product
-transfer the corresponding part to the train (etr1000)
-transfer the corresponding part to the track infrastructure (ballast)
''tools'--'generate part from product'

I leave the screenshot attached with the error that appears: you do not understand very unfortunately... in red there is the ballast and the train kept me only some parts of the imperial (tect) you see in gray... missing the whole part of the carriages below. .error.webpif I try to make a local train update ('train'' in the tree) it gives me the following error:error2.webp

Hello, luca.

we are in the presence of failure to update due to errors in the parts.

the system requires that these errors be resolved and there are different ways to do so (modifying, isolating, deactivating, eliminating the entity etc.) but this requires direct analysis of each error and there is no "generalized" advice.

it is preferable not to disclose files of which you are not owners on the forum.

I sent you a private message.

- new product
-transfer the corresponding part to the train (etr1000)
-transfer the corresponding part to the track infrastructure (ballast)
''tools'--'generate part from product'
avoid dragging the part, but once created the product:

menu/insert/new part (and insert the various parts).

even if I imagine (and hope) they provided you the original product, which already loads all parts in place.

other thing you can do is to open the parts individually to verify which (or which) generate errors, this because in the presence of error the process "plants" in this way by eliminating the parts to be resolved you can still go ahead in the process.

try also to save in step and then reload the step and perform allcatpart

Let me know.
