pc update for v20

Assuming that I will verymprobably stop at v20, and that lately the pc is struggling, I thought I would upgrade.
the current configuration is:

p4
2gb ram
nvidia picture fx540

I thought I'd update:
video card (what picture? 1700? )
bring the ram to 3gb

What do you say?
I look for advice especially on the video card, given the cost of the picture would not be bad also a used, but what?
 
I think your problem lies in the processor and not so much in the video card; so to nose your configuration seems balanced.
I would however say that a ram increase of one but also two gb, although partially exploited, can be a solution that gives great advantages if you happen to stay short while using the pc.
As for the sch.video I would certainly recommend the fx1700 or 1800, I currently use a 3700 but I do not see differences with the pc of my colleague, equal in everything and for everything except that in the video adapter that is a 1700; also with big assemblies; but we do not render with visual study.. .
It is obvious that the best solution would be to replace sch.madre, processor, ram and sch.video; but at this point you should take a new car.

I bought a fx4000 (agp) and a fx3450 (pci express) each for 100 euros on ebay, a new and a used. compared to the geforce moddate picture that I had before the difference you see but not to shout at the miracle.

However I have disabled almost all graphic effects (dissolvencies, transparencies etc) both on xp and inside.

It can be, I blamed the video card because it often drives me crazy.
Every now and then, when I'm in a sketch, all the lines and quotas disappear, only if I roote the view I see them appear and then I remarry like I put it on the floor.
I can fix reinstalling video drivers, but I didn't locate the problem exactly. . .

my disocrso is, little expense to update a hair the pc without recompleting it.
Our assemblies are not exaggerated and those few times I've rendered... I was patient!!! :-)

I would say that for now I take ram and look for a used fx1700.. .
 
also check the video card driver, the best one at the moment seems to be the:

nvidia's framework xp driver 6.14.11.8208 (listed on the download site as version 182.08) dated 18-february-2009

I had 172something, but after the troubles this morning I reloaded the last epr certificate if (162.65).

you say it's better to put 182.08!?

I don't have a nvidia card so I couldn't prove it. but on the American ng they speak very well, and as better than the certified ones that are a little dated.

other more recent versions are not as good.

fx1400 (it seems to me with 256 mb ram on board) is not bad, if you find it at good price; on a p4 3ghz perhaps it is useless to go on too high-performance cards that would not later be exploited.

In fact, that was why.
the 1400 is on an 80euri on ebay, compared to the 150/200 of the 1700.
Almost a 1400 I'll take it...
