sketch between parts

Good morning to all, I am new to inventor and arrival from solidworks.

I would have a probably simple question, I find myself with a carter laid on a plate, the carter has drilling for fixing, the plate where to fix it still not.

I was used to create a floor on the plate, project the holes of the carter on the floor and then use the projection for the centers (in solidworks) this function can not use it because:

- I can't select the parts behind the objects and the piece I should uilize as reference is hidden and unselected.

thanks to those who will understand what I want and above all can help me.

Hello ptch...
you simply need to use the "project geometry" command.

I'll explain better and get a picture1640081497650.pngto "copy" the drilling from the transparent part to the yellow part you must:
work in total, double click on the yellow part

do a sketch on the yellow part, in this you can use the command project geometry, for example by copying the drilling. then extrusion.1640082174682.pngI hope I've been helpful.
greetings

Since you come from solidworks (I don't know) I'm warning you that the projection so made can take place in two ways: fixed and adaptive. with fixed edges and these will not vary position if you change the holes on the casing. with adaptive instead the projections will adapt to changes. the adaptive work on inventor is slow to update and for pieces that are not trivial then lead behind potential instability: I try to avoid them or keep them active (you can disable the adactivity in a second time, finished piece when you're sure you won't need it anymore) for as long as possible. I do not have time to explain myself better but if you investigate the forum on "adactivity" surely will emerge discussions about it.
p.s.
my experience dates back to many versions ago and then I left them, maybe now they work better: other users can share their experiences.

I personally do not love adactivity. if I have to project holes I hold ctrl while I select the edge of the hole and it is projected already not adactive. so much then constraint through axles and if I move the holes above I go wrong the bond.
then on autodesk store there is a utility that makes you check out all the holes of all the asses and tells you whether they are in a board or not.
