solidworks pdm standard

Good morning to all is for a while I've been considering trying to install standard pdm... I press that I come from the use of pdm workgroup, I wanted to understand that advantages I would have belonged the fact that (if I did not understand bad) pdm workgroup will be removed with 2017.
I have already contacted the assistance and they have proposed me a day of installation with short course.... but before doing any step I wanted to feel the experience of someone

same thing told me.... but here the problem is that I do not see it very clear.. I think more than an improvement (talk for single-seat use) is a method to bind you more to assistance.
I explain better I tried to do the installation from scratch using another pc and I can guarantee that it is far from simple also because you have to do an installation of the "server" (which can be the same pc) and that of the client "user".

I don't know cmq in the meantime I'm studying the manual :frown: and if I can get everything started I'll post my experience

They came today for demonstration, it looks great for the use I have to do.
seems much more powerful than old workgroup pdm, which I used only in test for the chronicle

Do you know if there's a somewhat summarized installation guide? any of you managed to install it without the help of a technician? I did the installation of the standard pdm, but now I'm a little lost in the server settings....I would like to install it on a single location and I never used a pdm workgroup.

I installed it in the sense that the technician came to install it, it took a good day; for now it seems good..... .
I'm talking about the standard, I come from the work group and it's an epochal leap forward.
the passage from work group is a massacre though.....to you well sure if you pay 600euro per day do it to them but..... I don't know how many days they want to me at least a week, and I am alone.... .

I have answered those of solidworks customer support, you can also install on windows 7.

on the solidworks site give as operating system for server-side installation, only windows server.
client side can be used 7, 8.1 and 10

Basic windows server 2008r2 corresponds to windows 7, so there should be compatibility.

the standard solidworks pdm allows us to manage solidworks in a different way. the software allows us to work directly on the archive, to do research based on the properties assigned to the swx files (material, thickness, etc); It is true that there are no other clients, but it allows me, while being the only user, to work more efficiently on business files.

I would still install the pdm on another machine. In this way the system scales better and you are with updated back up copies.

we unfortunately have only one license, so I think the installation should be carried out by force on one pc.

It seems strange to me that the server cannot be installed on another machine. try asking a direct question about it.
