Hi to all I am new here my name is an alessandro and I am a mechanical engineer loaned to the construction field and the metal carpentry, for an examination that I have to carry out for the master of mechanical engineering that I am following I was asked to check through ansys apdl a structure of a loft with columns hem and beams of type ipe.
apart from the fact that I would like to understand how to create a .txt file of commands in such a way that I do not have to start all the time I make a mistake (I know it is a trivial thing but during the course that I followed the professor was very good not to explain how to do it), second thing that I want to understand once defined keypoints and lines and after defining the properties of the material as well as the sections of the beams how do I put the beams the right direction?
I better explain the ipe beams that make up the loft should have the wings facing parallel to the floor and to the sky to understand us and also should be with the upper wing with the top of the column. But this does not happen in my structure because ansys puts the ipe with the soul parallel to the floor (I would therefore find the way to rotate the beams of 90 degrees) and in addition the beams are all above the top of the columns (so to understand it being ipe300 the wings measure altogether about 150 and therefore my structure ends 150 mm above the top of the columns).
So there is some kind of command an offset to show the program that beams need to develop below the maximum height of the structure defined by the keypoints? or do I need to create specific keypoints preprocessor only for ipe beams considering this difference in quotas?
Moreover, there is also a command to define the orientation of the section i.e. whether the wings or the soul should be parallel to the floor?
last question about the proper functioning of ansys, is there a way to create from a .db file then ansys database carried out a txt file with the list of all the commands inserted? i.e. if I have a program where the defined keypoints are already present and I do not have the txt file of the input commands, can I create ansys itself a file with the list of commands used to create those keypoints?
hoping that you have explained better possible and excuse me to be so long I thank anyone who could give me a hand (to anyone who will help me I promise to put it in the thanks of the final thesis ahah)
