vectorworks e bim

Good morning, everyone.

the dilemma is simple: I have always used vw both in 2d and in 3d, rendering understood with good satisfactions and I can say that this is the "my" design program for all that I carry out in activity, from architecture to urbanism.
As you know, however, when it happens to work in multiple studies, in the end the winning part makes it autocad (which is the most popular software in the industry) and often not enough to make import/export in dwg to be able to interact with speed and slenderness.
This is why, wanting to upgrade to full bim, I do not know if it is better to keep the good vw or aim is to pass to the revit that is and will be the most widespread program.

Thank you all and I extend my greetings

This is your choice.
As far as I've been concerned, since 1999 we've been hearing "ah, don't use autocad, then it's a problem." It will be the same with the bim, of course.
so you have to decide if you want to continue on your way and learn not to listen to those who will tell you that the ifc is not good; or make you the easiest way and go to other software.
considers however that in the bim decree it is previewed the use of interoperable platforms by means of open formats not owners.

I do.

Lory is perfectly right. the only reason you would have to change is related to your partners; If you work mainly side by side with revit users then it would be more convenient for everyone that you would adapt...comfort, not mandatory!

I thank you for the answers.
the question definitely may seem very "light", like, but what do I have to do? Do I continue as or before or change road?
in reality the substance wanted to be a comparison with other experiences. Vw has recently evolved a lot and it is a program that I consider extraordinary in various aspects as well as now the "my" work tool, as I said.
I have had and will often have collaborations with other studies and autocads and therefore revit will be the most widespread platform.
not having had direct experiences with those who use revit and not having had the opportunity to try the latest versions of vw being stopped in 2014, I would have liked to know from who instead you have already found to cope with this situation as you found.

thanks lory and thanks tristan.

Okay, now it's clearer.
I can tell you that there is an abyss between 2014 and 2018. parametric objects evolve, there are new functions (import revit, one of them). Obviously, as for all software evolution is constant.

I happened to work on a contest where the bim model was required in ifc format. we have therefore collaborated with strutturists and planters on revit. the data exchange was based on ifc, without big problems, while all being at the first experience. the important thing is to immediately agree the coordinates of the model. I would say that, since both parties accept the use of the ifc format, there are no big problems, at least if you work with other disciplines.

Otherwise, the question becomes more delicate, if you all work on the architectural with different software. the model must be clearly divided. Therefore it is essential to understand that contributions must be made in collaboration and discuss them with the bim manager.
is not a simple matter; but using different software is not even a problem, it is a challenge. ;-)
I do.

very clear.
I thank you for the experience, on the other hand it was what I needed to hear.
It is worth more since reported by those who know vectoworks, as I have always had the opportunity to appreciate.
Thank you.
