In this post, we’re going to take a deep dive into the Boolean Trim tool. This amazing tool enables you to trim portions of a solid using another solid as a guide. It’s a combination of the Boolean Add and Remove tool.
Step 1:
In the ‘Part Design’ workbench, find the ‘Boolean Operation’ dropdown menu. From there, select the ‘Trim’ tool.
Step 2:
Next, select the ‘Trimming Bodies’. These will serve as guides to trim the Main Body. Here, we’ll select the cube.
Step 3:
Next, it’s time to select the ‘Main Body’- The solid body you want to trim. In our case, we’ll choose the block. A dialog box will pop up.
Step 4:
You can pick what faces that will be removed after the trim, OR select the faces that you want to make sure the trim command will keep. After making your selection, hit the ‘ok’ button.
And just like that, you’ve successfully executed a Boolean Trim operation! The sphere has been trimmed using the cube, leaving the intersecting portion intact.
I hope you found this tutorial useful and are eager to try out the tool in your projects. If you have any questions or would like to explore more CATIA V5 features, feel free to reach out. Happy designing!
