I'm a mold designer and I'm currently working with catia 5.
I have to say that I was very well with catia 4 and I would say maybe better.
I want to go back to 4 but I have two problems.
the first is that my workstation 43t is spirata and voorei buy a similar one with catia v4 installed.
the second is that I could buy a risc workstation but I can't find who can track me catia v4 of which I am owner.
I wonder if any of you can help me.

You don't want to keep banging your head on v5, since v4 is now dead. Note that the v6:wink already came out:

a curiosity... what are you better with v4 than v5? I have done the same passage 3 years ago and, after the first phase in which it is necessary to rethink the way of work, I think they are (almost) only advantages

being a mold designer, I have to take models from customers.
These are produced with various 3d cads and sometimes contain force and/or inaccuracies.
I often happened with the 5 to place the models without being able to close in solid.
the same model brought on the 4 not by problems and once made matrix and punch are perfect also on the 5.
also considers that I have a huge database of jobs executed with the 4.

there are various ways and usefulness, present on catia v5, which allow you
to easily close a solid.I worked on catia v4 but currently
use only catia v5 and believe me there is no comparison.

I also work in your own sector, and I think problems are comparable. is much easier to "close" skins with v5 than v4, using the correct methodologies. As for the database, no doubt the work to do to move to v5 is great. However it is an investment, in the sense that the parameterization and the possibility of reuse of the components are in my experience enormously superior

hello to all, I own both v4 and v5... I have to say that for the design of molds I use v4 to make the initial drafts and pre-studies as well as fix the models. then in v5 project the real mold....and with the module of v5 tg1 I have to say that you really go shipped... So I think this is the right compromise....
