Hi.
for those interested, below you will find the instructions to create a portable version of my lego simulation program per pc.
are given for discount the following things:
- pcs on which you intend to run the program already have system requirements to run my program (ms framework 2.0, directx in the correct version, various updates of video card drivers)
- the program was installed using the default values and executed at least once on the starting computer
- the "portable" key or disk have at least 128mb of free space and are identified by u:
do as follows:
1- copy the contents of the c:\ldraw folder and its subfolders in u:\
2- create on u: a folder to contain sr3dbuilder system files (eg. u:\sr3db)
3- copy the contents of my program installation folder (usually c:\programs\sr3dbuilder) in u:\sr3db (you can avoid copying unins*.* and fulldownload.exe)
4- executed sr3dbuilder.exe by u:\sr3db
5a- if required to select the folder for the library of the parts, select u:\ldraw
5b- if not required to select the part library folder, select file->setup directory from the program menu, and then select the u folder:\ldraw
you should now be able to run the program from the usb key. for me it worked immediately and without problems! !
some additional information:
- whenever you start the program on a different computer, or if you change the name of the drive associated with the key) you must run steps 5a or 5b to configure the application.
- uploading images could be a bit long the first time, then the images are cached in the system and everything speeds up
- the .l3b extension is not associated with the program
- some voices are written in the pc registry.
- there may also be other small malfunctions
keep in mind that these instructions apply to the latest available version of the program (0.5.6.6) without modifications of the executable and are the result of a fifteen minutes of attempts, so be patient if the pc register is slightly "sporcated" (less than 10 entries)
