the new version 8.5 of visualnastran, now baptized simwise, is an important update as it introduces:
64-bit native compilationsimwise is now available in 32 and 64-bit versions. if you install on a computer with 64-bit windows, simwise will offer you the possibility to install the 32-bit or 64-bit version. The 64-bit version uses all the memory available on the computer, allowing the analysis of larger fea models than the possible ones on the 32-bit version, which limits the use of 3 gb memory.
the 64-bit version of simwise is also able to interface with 32-bit versions of solidworks, solid edge, inventor and matlab/simulink just like the 32-bit version of simwise can integrate with 64-bit versions of such products.
if you use a 64-bit version of windows, it is advisable to install the 64-bit version of simwise.
integrazioni cadsimwise version 8.5 provides a new communication system with solid edge that allows the associative transfer of geometry and constraints to simwise. also contains new cad file readers, which operate from within simwise and increase the systems from which simwise can directly transfer geometric data according to the following table.

system (file extension) supported versions
catia v5 (.catproduct, .catpart) r6 - r22 (v5-6 r2012)
11 - nx 8
16 - creo 2.0
solidworks (.sldprt, .sldasm) 98 - 2012
inventor (.ipt, .iam) v6 - v2012
acis (.sat, .sab) r1-r23
parasolids (.x_t, .xmt_txt, .x_b, .xmt_bin) 10.0 - 24.0
step (.stp, .step) 203, 214
iges (.igs, .iges) up to 5.3
stl (.stl)
solid edgeif the simwise installer detects that it is installed solid edge, the user will be offered the possibility to install the appropriate translator. This is an additional module, available for 32-bit and 64-bit versions of solid edge, which directly transfers constraints, parts and axiemi solid edge in simwise. also allows updates to an existing simwise model that has been translated by a solid edge set: only parts that have been modified in the solid edge axieme are updated in the simwise model.
new additional operating mode with solidworks and inventorin previous versions of simwise, trying to open a solidworks or inventor file inside simwise caused the start of the cad application, the desired file was opened and the simwise cad imported the assem or part. In addition, the new version 8.5 simwise now directly opens the axieme or part and transfers the data without having to start the cad system. This means that you can open solidworks and inventor proprietary files on systems that have not installed these cad packages, but clearly cad constraints are not converted into simwise constraints, only geometry is transferred. to interpret also the constraints you must continue to use simwise integration within the cad solidworks or inventor system.
best solutor femthe fem solver has been greatly improved. the simwise used previously two nastran solutors, an iterative and fast solver for stress analysis and a separate solver for all other types of analysis. nastran iterative solutor has been improved to be usable in all types of analysis supported by simwise. Further improvements have been introduced to use the multi-core processor and allow reduction of solution times.
publication of bees for data conversionsimwise cad import features are now public for general use via bees. These are the same bees used to write cad interfaces supported directly as solidedge, solidworks and inventor. Example files and documentation are found in the directory sdk/export bees.

released today build 8.5.0.1056 of simwise software certified for windows 8 to 32 and 64 bit. immediate availability via study list srl in www.simwise4d.it
hi liststudio,
at the time of the university (ing. a padova) we used working model 2d and 3d.
simwise brings together these two sw now?
I am interested above all to know if it is possible to do cinematic analysis of mechanisms (even 2d) and get graphics, how did I do with the old wm?

Thank you.

dear stef_design, simwise is the new working model 3d, all (and more) the possibilities of kinetodynamic analysis of the working model 2d because for example the contact model is open to the user through input window, that is, you can more easily than in the 2d write formulas for a contact model other than that standard of the impulse theorem, as in the window in figure. just as an example is there as a normal reaction to contact a force, (-1e5 n/m)*penetration() + (-300 n s/m)*penetrationrate(), proportional to the reciprocal penetration of solids and the velocity of compnetration, purely exemplifying formula and with numerical coefficients to be reviewed according to the materials.

image2.jpg

in particular, the simwise motion level corresponds to the working model 3d while the simwise 4d combines kinetodynamics + fem.
Finally now the two products, working model 2d and simwise, are developed by a single mother's house, the dst, so for two years it has taken the hands of a substantial revision of the codes and the integration between 2d, 3d and 4d (where 4d=3d+fea) will be increasingly evident in the future with the incorporation in a single solution, unless you value convenient to keep a simplified guite for park
at the present time therefore the working model 2d and the simwise have the same language formula, the simwise reads the files working model 2d, but the two software live in two different ways.

Thank you very much for the delucidations.
I'll ask you something else. If you want, with simewise4d, you can do rapid 2d cinematic analysis (as with wm2d)?
I often use wm to quickly schematize mechanisms, without building me every time of 3d models.

Thank you.

If I have well understood, ask me if you can do kinetodynamic analysis in simwise schematize directly in the environment without necessarily having to import from external cad solid models already made.

the answer is yes and there are two possibilities.

the first is to use the internal solid modeler of simwise that allows you to quickly create simple solid objects (ches, prisms, cylinders, spheres and conveyor belts - that is, solids possibly stopped in space but with motion surfaces) - and their assemblies. loading shortly the image of the simulation of a conveyor belt where the belt on which the falling pieces roll is actually a firm foil in space, designed with the internal modeler of simwise (I must find in the regulation how to attach an image without then tribolare sandra, to which I apologize!). you can solidify with only one solid mouse command in one piece (insert subassembly, and then rigidly join bodies), and of course you can then export everything or part as a solid model to external cad.

the second mode is to draw only reference frames in space, i.e. oriented points, objects without physical dimension. then, selected at two to two these points, if you click in "insert, connecting body" you automatically draw solid rods, i.e. cylinders with dimensions and masses from you changeable (it is the fastest method to build for example a tubular frame - just then solidify everything as explained - or to make a lever system - putting the appropriate constraints to the joints). also in this case all then removable as an acis to an external cad.

clear that if the user has inventor, solidedge or solidworks can prefer to use the direct integration with simwise, so if he has to change a single piece of the axieme back to the cad, make the change, then reopen simwise and with the command "tools, update from cad" reads the modification made on that only piece without losing of the simulation until then prepared (you must not reimport all

if instead your question is like seeing the topological scheme of a mechanism imported from the outside and of complex form, that is to replace to the visualization of the physical bodies a conceptual scheme of intangible rods that link them highlighting the constraints, then you have to click in view, kinematic.

now I look for how to attach images without putting external links and tribolare sandra with corrections!

big news coming: design simulation technologies inc. chose to incorporate the revolutionary sherpa engine of design optimization, developed by red cedar technology (www.redcedartech.com), in simwise simulation software (www.simwise4d.it).

after completing the native 64bit development of the simwise 4d v.8.5, the virtual prototyping software that combines the possibility of kinetodynamic analysis of the working model 3d with the fea analysis with nastran and with a photorealistic rendering engine, within the first quadrimestre of 2013 will be made available in version 9.0 of simwise all optimization features that have made sherpa leader indiscus.

designers need intuitive, immediate and effective software tools, because it often lacks time to develop an in-depth theoretical knowledge of the problem or to follow malicious calculation procedures.

thanks to integrated sherpa in simwise, designers and engineers will quickly identify design variables, select the amount to be minimized or maximized and easily find the optimal design.

as soon as available we will present in this thread some downloadable and usable examples that allow to appreciate these new features.

simwise (ex visualnastran) software developments continue with the new integration into spaceclaim cad, which is added to those for inventor, solidworks and solidedge already published. further information in www.simwise4d.it

in dettaglio:

1) spaceclaim interface

v8.5,2 provides a new data translator add-in for spaceclaim which provides associative transfer of geometry and constraints from spaceclaim to simwise as introduced with v.8.5.1. the interface does not yet allow updating from with simwise. updates must be initiated from within spaceclaim. this capability will be added in a future release. demo in www.simwise4d.it

2) cad translators

this version contains updated versions of the cad file readers that operate from within simwise. they allow assemblies created in solidworks 2013 and inventor 2013 to be loaded into simwise.

simwise now supports loading (via the file open command) the following files types:
system (file type) supported versions Cat v5 . catproduct, .catpart r6 - r22 (v5-6 r2012)nx .Fold 11 - nx 8 creo/elements formerly pro/e .prt, .prt.*, .asm, .asm.* 16 - I believe 2.0 solidworks Sldprt, .sldasm 98 - 2013 inventor .ipt, .sim v6 - in2013 eyes .sat, .sab r1-r23 parasolid .x_t, .xmt_txt, .x_b, .xmt_bin 10.0 - 24.0 step .stp, .step 203, 214iges .igs, .iges up to 5.3stl .stl

3) bug fixes with excel
the 64-bit link to excel has been fixed to use a new grid control.

4) bug fixes with windows 8
the ability to initiate an update to models transferred via the add-in from solidworks and solid edge has been fixed with windows 8

three methods to shape a simple collision inhttp://www.simwise4d.it/example/3collision.mp4a ball bounces on a swinging beam, three cases:

1) to the right, collision control with the impulse theorem (simwise motion).

2) at the center, collision control with custom model to distribute forces in contact time (default model available in simwise motion), to switch to a linear fem analysis to small deformations (mesh indeformed) to the kinetodynamic integration step (simwise 4d)

3) to the left, beams resolved as a flexible body (flexbeam scripting as in working model 2d or manual modeling in simwise motion) and collision control with the impulse theorem (simwise motion)

a simple example to illustrate how any simulation model should be chosen taking into account what it is able to describe, or whether it can or not respond to the result sought.

However, it is evident how by combining the second and third approach you can achieve extremely efficient simulations for this software class before switching to more complex, precise and costly simulations in the non-linear context with mesh continually deformed to contact.

news in simwise 9.7 released on 26/11/2015

• new thermal analysis in transit.
• new thermal/structural combined analysis.
• new materials databases included; import data from commercial databases and cad
• new product simise durability for integrated fatigue analysis in simwise 4d
• better management import files external cad; update to all current versions
• improved performance of solidworks and solid edge integrations
• new display options for measuring windows within the working area
• optional automatic notification of availability of updates
• new integrations

new fea analysis features

two new finite element solutions were introduced, thermal and thermal/structural transient analysis.
1) Transitional thermal analysis determines temperature and other thermal quantities that vary over time. Transitional thermal analysis basically follows the same static thermal analysis procedure, except that a time period is specified and the number of transitions in which the results must be calculated. thanks to the simwise display capabilities, for example, you can view the heat flow in time in animation.
2) Thermal/structural combined analysis begins with thermal boundary conditions to calculate temperature distribution within a part. then apply the temperatures calculated as an additional boundary condition to continue with the analysis along with other structural loads and constraints. the calculated efforts and deformations thus incorporate both the effects of thermal load and structural loads.

new database of materials

the database of materials has been completely revised in the structure and enriched in data.
the file format has been modified by a simple csv file to the most performing xml matml, now industry standard. simwise searches for material files in two specified user directories.
By doing so, a directory can be used for material properties shared with all users of a company or department, while the other directory can be used for local properties of a specific user.
materials within the database can now be organized into categories to facilitate access and organization. the browser of the materials always shows all the material files present in the two directories and possibly loaded by external cad, in addition to the actual categories and properties of the material, tabled according to the temperature.
the properties of the materials are also recovered from solidworks, autodesk simulation and other cads, if such cads are present or if the respective materials are imported, provided they are compatible with the matml format (including therefore spaceclaim, ansys and engineeringtool box). files downloaded from www.matweb.com materials can also be created when importing a cad file or when using simwise integration in cad. if the properties of the material defined in the cad system are present at transfer, simwise will search through the material libraries to find a material with the same properties; if you find it will use it, otherwise it will create a material in a local database, called with the same name and referred to the system of origin cad.
For example, if a solid edge file is opened through open files and material properties are defined in that cad, then if simwise is able to find a matching material in one of its material libraries (including any solidedge local library) it will use it, otherwise it will create it in that library, with the same material name and solidedge group.

simwise durability

fatigue breaking is one of the most common causes of structural failure and can lead to disastrous events. Therefore, fatigue life forecast is essential in modern design as well as regulatory prescription.
simwise 4d already calculates static and dynamic stresses and deformations resulting from the ciment of a mechanism. simwise durability uses such results as a starting condition to calculate the useful life of the parts and highlight where the components must be sprayed, or where they are oversized, to improve their fatigue behaviour.
After completing a kinetodynamic and fem analysis combined with simwise 4d, you choose the additional properties of the material available in the new databases provided with the software and the fatigue calculation model and then launch the analysis to investigate the fatigue performance of the piece and the axieme.
the demo version of simwise 4d includes the module simwise durability and a special section of documentation and school cases in the help menu.

improved management of imported cad files

improvements have been made in the import of files cad. colors and transparencies are more widely supported and the structure and nomenclature of assemblies and subaxis is complete. significant as now the properties of materials can be transferred to simwise by the cad system if available in that environment, as previously described.

plug-in improvement in solidworks and solid edge

previously, the passage from the environment cad solidworks and solidedge through native integration took place through two separate phases, although these two phases were not perceived separate by the user; first with the conversion of the parts in parasolid format, then with the translation of the parasolid models in simwise. Moreover, in case of multiple instances of the same part, conversion was repeated equal to each of them.
now, with version 9.7 of simwise the conversion is directed no longer the intermediate passage via parasolid. in case of multiple instances of the same part, conversion is made once and then the simwise part obtained is replicated as many times as necessary.
These two modifications hampered the time needed for integration, with a reduction of time up to 80%.

new measurement display system

Measuring windows can now be displayed within the work graphic window.
Previously, the measuring windows were managed independently outside the graphic area, they could be superimposed to it but still remained untied. with more open models, confusion was generated not being immediate to understand which measuring windows were referring to a model rather than to the other.
Now the user can choose how the measuring windows should be managed, in the previous mode or in the new.

automatic notification optional availability updates

version 9.7 simwise introduces an automatic notification system of updates.
if the version in use is protected by maintenance contract and a new version becomes available, simwise will notify each start of such availability and ask the user whether or not he wants to update.
you can always turn off such automatic control by unchecking the check box.

new integrations cad

the possibility of integrating within the cads, while remaining autonomous product, has always been a very appreciated feature of simwise.
In fact, on the one hand it is important to pass all the information of the model cad a simwise through an automatic process that transfer not only the solid model, but also the properties of the materials and the features of assembly, so that simwise interprets as far as possible the history of assembly translating the physical constraints.
but also it is equally important, once imported the model in simwise environment, free the cad license to continue other designs and thus use the kinetodynamic analysis platform and fem for the necessary calculations. adding simwise to a commercial cad is therefore used the cad license only for the time necessary to exchange information, then freeing it for other modeling activities while continuing calculations with simwise. the “update from cad” feature allows simwise to automatically verify any changes that occurred in the cad model without having to reimport the whole model.
Besides the already known integrations in autodesk inventor, solid edge, solidworks, spaceclaim and geomagic design, the new version of simwise now offers additional integrations in keycreator, ironcad and zw3d.
all eight default cad integrations are provided with the simwise product, in addition to the cat’s interface up to v6 of 2015, and therefore the user is free subsequently to change or add cad platforms without having to purchase new integration modules with simwise and without being obliged to remain with the previously used solution.

is available in www.simwise4d.it a short exercise explained step by step, executable also with the demo version of simwise4d+, on the calculation to fatigue.
you can check by following the tutorial how fatigue failure can involve parts not shown by stress analysis as the most critical.

immediately available new version 9.8 simwise, free demo in www.design-simulation.com/simwise4d/newdemo.phpsimwise v9.8 introduces integration with the cad onshape system(www.onshape.com). Onshape parts and assemblies can be opened in simwise and onshape assembly constraints are automatically converted into simwise kinetodynamic constraints. Onshape parts and assemblies can be used to make virtual prototypes, producing kinetodynamic analysis, structural and thermal fea analysis, duration ( fatigue analysis) and optimization. changes made to a part or an onshape assembly can then be automatically updated to the simwise model.

Another new feature is the ability to export the simwise motion model for adams (adams is a superior solution for analysis of msc software cinematisms). a virtual prototype built and simulated in simwise can thus be transferred completely to adams and in all other simulation software that can read adams files.

the model made with simwise can also be exported to simscape software, produced by mathworks. this possibility for simwise to work together with control solutions and other systems modeled in simulink expands exponentially the analysis capabilities. simwise has always had the ability to function as a simulink block, now this new feature transfers the simwise model directly into simscape and thus allows to simulate completely within the simulink environment.

This capacity allows axiemi embedded in cad systems to be transformed not only into simwise working prototypes, but also to be transferred, ready to use, in simscape. workflows that previously required days or weeks to be completed can now be completed in less than an hour.

simwise offers 3d kinetodynamics strictly coupled with finite element analysis (fea) and optimization in a single, convenient autonomous or integrated package with the main cad systems, leaving the user free to start from solidworks, solidedge, inventor, geomagic design, spaceclaim, zw3d, ironcad and onshape as well as obviously neutral formats of import step, iges, a stcis

the main features of simwise include:

- dynamic simulation with a robust 3d contact engines that allow to simulate real reactions between moving parts to be simulated

- analysis of finite elements (fea) coupled with kinetodynamic simulation and therefore with calculation of different load and bond conditions during movement simulation

- automatic or manual meshing, h-adaptivity engine for stress analysis, deformations, thermal, tip loads, vibration and fatigue

- interface that allows simulink modeled control systems to govern in feedback the simwise model

- animation of the results of kinetodynamic simulation and fem (also deformations) with production of photorealistic films with lights, shadows, reflections and textures always thanks to the instruments included with simwise

- associative integration with solidworks, solid edge, autodesk inventor, spaceclaim, geomagic design and onshape (the menu of these cads completes with the simwise menu

- ability to read cad data of catia v5, nx, creo / elements, solidworks, inventor, solid edge, acis, parasolid, step, iges and stl

- optimization using kinetodynamic simulation results and fea analysis for structural modification of parts according to the result to be obtained

- fatigue analysis with the durability module

- possibility to export data in high-end analysis systems, including nastran, adams, and simscape multibody and all other systems that can read their file formats.
