cut a 3d object by drawing a cutting line

Bye to all,
in autocad how do you do (always you can) cut a solid 3d indicating in the active view a cutting line?. with rhinoceros is simple and intuitive, with command cut the object 3d to be cut, select a line and rhino will cut me considering a plan perpendicular to the view generated by the cutting line, very simple, but with autocad I did not understand if you can do, I tried with cheek but not succeeds me.

create a surface from your spline or polyline and use surface option

thanks tristan then it is as I imagined, there is no way to cut a solid or surface from an orthogonal view by selecting only a cut line. I asked why with rhino I was so accustomed to doing it and I found it so comfortable that I didn't seem possible you could not even in autocad.
