hello to all my name is gregory and work in a small workshop of modena where we repair and modify electric motors both continuously and asynchronous monophase and three-phase.
from a few years I began to use solidworks for modifications of some components such as trees, induced parcel, stator, carcass, etc. finding me very well with this software. My question concerns the possibility of adding a component to sw regarding the electrical part and study of the different tests to be carried out on the engines. both the induct and the stator are composed of percui electric windings I would like to test them directly on the pc before starting to change the engines so as to save a lot of time and material.what would you know to help me?

rightly as you say companies have their own know-how percui customers who turn to them must be content with the catalog since the design of engines is a long and expensive process. our problem is that we have customers who deny specific engines that we have to design for very few pieces and between the beginning and the end of the production cycle can spend days with the real risk of throwing hours and material for errors in the development phase with consequence increase of the costs.I thought that seen solidworks has within it packages for analysis of stresses, fluidodynamic calculation, etc. could be possible to have calculation of analysis on the powers, couples. in real time produced by the engine saving us a time and money.Magari sw is not able, but perhaps you know others who know it? It seems strange to me that after 100 years from the invention of engines, and especially since formulas are always those there is no specific program:-)

Unfortunately I also fight every day with the fact that many things should be consolidated after at least 100 years of experience, but often it is random, yield of other experiences, secret experiments and so doing it invents all the times the thing that already existed.

for your case with solidworks full package you could:
- model the rotor, stator, geometric carcass
- with simulation make a fem to components and possibly optimize shaft and bearings and determine maximum loads on the shaft
- with motion you can turn the engine with acceleration and deceleration ramps and see effectively the inertia that in absolute regime is that of mass evaluated as mass*distance to square. in real regime you will get a reduced total inertia to the motor not constant if the masses are not symmetric depending on the axis of rotation and this is the load that really sees the motor (for low inertia applications and high performance where the current enters to 190% of the nominal without losing performance)
- knowing from the formulas how much heat is produced by passing with the current in copper, you can use floworks to study the cooling of the engine, whether it belongs to an ip23 with direct ventilation of the rotor, both ip54 with ventilation of the case. can be studied standard ventilation with integrated coaxial fan on the shaft or servoventilate or heat exchanger air/oil or air/water or for motors torque directly liquid cooling
