Dear colleagues,

as it is known that the simulations to the fluent require days (at least my!!) and since from the task manager of windowsxp (ctrl+alt+canc) it turns out that the processor is working only 50% during a simulation, you know by chance some way to make the processor work, per fluent, at 100%? ? ?

we say that in theoretical line should be possible.

Does anyone know if you can do it and how?

Gennaro

you can do by setting the number of processes of the solutor from file->run->processes.
alternatively from command line using the -t2 flag, where 2 is the number of processes.
if you have never used it in multiprocess version the mpi service will ask you username and login password for the additional process, enter your usual for windows.
depending on the license you have to activate the 2 processes you may need an additional license and/or launch the solutor without pre/post, feel the dealer for this.

darling vmax

thank you, run though I appear "shaded", i.e. I can't click to access it!!

also does not even work on the command line.

Speaking of the command line, I typed -t2 in the row. Did I do well?

What does that mean? that the license I have does not allow me to activate the run option?

However if you are curious, I am simulating with fluent the cooling of the first stage of a gas turbine (cavolo, it takes days!), and it is really interesting. I am working on optimizing the flow of cooling fluid and the arrangement of forellini for flim cooling.

I expect your answer, thank you for the help! !

you probably mean the processes box, because if you don't access the run menu then you can't launch the calculation. However the answer you are already given, if you cannot enable multiple threads means that you have the license for single process. I know that there is, at least here in the ground, a special license type of token, which allows you as an alternative to having the active prepost or 2 processes of the solutor, yet I invite you to ask the dealer
from command line you should put in the folder where the executable fluent resides (or add it to the path) and launch fluent with the -t2 flag, for example for a 3d analysis in double precision you will have something like:
\percorso\fluent 3ddp -t2
for another there is an exhaustive chapter of the manual that speaks of parallel processing, I invite you to read it.
I'm dealing with something very similar here at bristol, if you need a hand...

Do you really work in the same field? Wow! cmq also I would like to work a few years in the guilloterra! must be an interesting experience! I would like to work like you or enroll in a doctoral school...but it seems that the second option is a little difficult to achieve!

cmq returning to fluent: Of course I can throw the calculation:

from the desktop click on fluent, I see the window where I choose "versions" (and I choose 2ddp) and "mode" (and I choose full simulation).

After that I access the working environment where, after doing all the settings, launch iterate, and the calculation part.

but, in the work environment of fluent, if I go on file - run, I can't enter the run because it's shady, it's a locked box. Maybe it unlocks somehow.

lhelp says: see the separate installation instructions for more information about installing parallel fluent for windows. the startup instructions below assumes that you have properly set up the necessary software, based on the appropriate installation instructions.

means I didn't install parallel fluent on my pc?

cmq my version is 6.3.26!

more than interesting I find this job as a frankly scandalous emigrant, in the 21st century, for a whole series of reasons with which I am not loving you. But instead, you take care of the work you do that all in all I don't think is bad. . .

about fluent I obviously stayed behind some version, anyway the idea is that: verify how you are licensed, while (the conditional is mandatory at this point) you should already have installed everything you need for parallel calculation with the default installation, will go to most registered services, but it is a trivial thing, always if you have a license that with some escamotage (such as solutor-prepost interchangeable tokens) allows you to calculate parallel.

Finally I suggest you an alternative road that a few years ago I used successfully: do the setup and mesh of the calculation you need and then try a little to hear for the use of fluent servers, which have imaginative powers and had (in 2007) hourly prices for affordable cpus, I don't know if they still make calculations on demand but it is worth trying if it generates problems of awkward size, as it is typically the case for the movie cooling of gas turbines...

from the fluent icon on the desktop...right mouse button->propriety->destination-> manually write "-t2" at the end of the string->app

dear simone,

Thanks for your advice but it's not right. obviously the version I have does not support some features

Gennaro

I'm sorry... I'd like to bother you, but when you try to do as I say, it gives you a mistake and the fluent part, or part and note no improvement?

dear simone,

when I try to do as you tell me you give me an error and fluent does not leave, in particular the error of warning that the path I selected does not exist.

Therefore, according to my interpretation, in the installation folder of the version of fluent that I have there is not the file that you suggested to me the path.

Gennaro, I don't want to say anything superfluous, but maybe in the banality is the solution! before writing -t2 with the said procedure, give a space from the last character of the string. Bye!

incredible! you're right! so now I should be able to increase the computing speed! Hehe, I'll try right now, then I'll let you know! suggestions are never superfluous... I never thought of leaving a space before writing the code!

Gennaro
