Good morning,
Thank you for who can help me.
are two days I try to open a stp file (native inventor program) provided by the customer with solidworks.
the opening procedure starts, phase 1 ....phase 2 and here stops and the screen appears with the message I attach.
I have tried them all, even changing the choices on "options" before opening but always happens.
It's a big file, almost 1 giga but I opened other times files of such size.
if you can give me some tips... thank you
Hi.

but worse than worse. worked all night and produced nothing (with 3dinterconnect).
Now I have tried in a different way, as soon as I have the result I hope positive, I write here the procedure in case it should serve others.
Thank you.

Is it a set or a part?
However if you can send or file inventor.
with the 3dinterconnect you charge them perfectly and then save them as solid files

It's a set.
Thanks for the tip, I didn't know you could open an inventor file.
if it does not work with the step I will ask the native.
Thanks again.

3dinterconnect is used to open native files of other software without losing its connection.
in practice if you open an inventor file with the 3dinterconnect if this file is changed to your next you will charge the changes.

you have ever received a step file from a supplier and tried to open it in solidworks, just to return the warning: "relevated record index not valid"?

If you have received this frustrating notice, you have clicked on the right blog because I am going to show you how to bypass this alert to open that step file!
  • First of all, you must ensure that 3d interconnect is not activated by going on options of the solidworks> import 3d interconnect enabled.
  • then, open the step file in note block.
  • once the step file is open in note block, start the replace command (modification> replace or ctrl + h).
  • in the "find what" box, enter the string presentation_style_assignment and in the "replace with" box, type Presets .
  • Replace all instances of presentation_style_assignment (problem data) with pres by clicking the substitute button.

  • save the changes made to the step file in note block and reopen the step file in solidworks.
by making these changes in the note block, solidworks will now skip this parameter during the import analysis process and should open as expected in solidworks!

Thank you very much for the support.
I attached the procedure that I found on the internet (santo man) that allowed me to open the stp and by passing the problem that gave me.
If this happens to someone, it's another solution.

Good. thanks to you for the procedure you found.
I suggest, however, to open the file with notespad++ instead of with notes block (opening a 1 giga file with notes block must have been very long)

absolutely no, 3 seconds and was open, in 1 minute I opened, modified and closed the file. I did not even know the existence of this procedure honestly.
I still keep your note good.
Hi.

3 seconds and it was open, in 1 minute I opened, modified and closed the file
ah though... maybe depends on the file type.
I tried to open an image from about ten megas and it took a plentiful minute and then I made a proportion.
However notepad++ is an advanced note block with multiple tools. Maybe take a look and can come back useful for other situations

n sw16 was different or wasn't there?
as seen from the image starts from 2017
follow the signs of post #7. obviously not having you 3d interconnect that is disabled you don't have to worry
