Collins Aerospace Acquires Second NXG XII 600 Printer from Nikon SLM Solutions for Engine Nozzles Facility

LUBECK, Germany, Feb 14, 2024 — Nikon SLM Solutions is pleased to announce that Collins Aerospace, an RTX business, has purchased a second NXG XII 600 printer for its facility in West Des Moines, Iowa. The new large-format printer will allow Collins to increase its additive production capacity at the site and expand the facility’s existing material capabilities to better serve its customers.

Collins’ West Des Moines location is a world leader in the design and production of engine components for commercial and military aircraft. In 2023, the site celebrated the opening of a $14 million 9,000-square-foot addition of its additive manufacturing center. The production-ready facility is one of only nine in the U.S. to receive the National Aerospace and Defense Contractors Accreditation Program (NADCAP) certification for Additive Manufacturing.

Sam O’Leary, CEO of Nikon SLM Solutions stated, “With the addition of Collins’ second NXG XII 600 printer, we’re fueling their mission to revolutionize aerospace manufacturing. This not only empowers the industry as a whole but underscores our commitment to customer-driven innovation.”

Built specifically for serial production, the NXG XII 600 is an industry game-changer that boasts speeds 20x faster than standard single laser machines. Its large build envelope, sized at 600x600x600, is attractive to industries with demanding and cutting-edge applications.
