I wouldn't install it anyway immediately, I will definitely wait a few weeks to hear the impressions of those who update from windows 7 (which I currently have), if it creates problems, if it penalizes the performance of the computer, etc... then I will decide.

still updating not formatting the disk. if everything goes as planned, the data is not lost.
but as we talk about a consistent update, some problems could jump out. so the back-up is highly advisable.

I saw a colleague's notebook this morning (not very recent, he's already 5 years old); last night, to say in half an hour, no problem with sw type office and other installed (no cad though).
I just took a quick look, I can't say anything except that the interface finally seemed to me something usable on a pc.

I'm using this system. the download took all night, going like 70 kb/sec, evidently not to saturate their servers have dropped much speed. I am now installing using the update function, then I will create support.

with the update, all sw installed on my laptop (excluding those of microsoft that are declared in the warnings of win 10) were installed and operational. the most important,office2010, revit, software acca, docfa, pregeo, etc. ) work regularly : I opened archived files and everything works regularly.
even some sw "data", with win 10 seems to work faster.
with win 7 the s.o. and its applications, it was loaded in about 3/4 minutes: without touching anything, win 10 is loaded in about 90 seconds...
the traditional menu, is not exactly like win 7: the main folders are listed and then all sw. if you had rapped into secondary folders (list) are not shown in the menu. For example, my acca folder was subdivided into secondary folders (safety - accounting- etc...) in the menu is reported the main folder (acade) and then all sw : primus, certus, etc..
the changes to the main menu, you must make them in the folders where the menu files are allocated, and not directly from the menu itself (as in win 7).
of course, you can organize everything with the apps menu (as in win 8), dragging from the menu to apps
there is some problem with java, whose update you have to do using a browser other than edge, which is not yet 100% compatible with java

if I click above I can see that I am on the waiting list but today I have not yet been able to update.

I also had to wait a while before pressing on the windows icon, instead of the usual msg saying that my reservation had been acquired and that etc.. , the msg appeared to me that the update was ready.
when I threw it ( pressing the ok button that appears on the notification ) it ticked ....

then I found on the site of the microsoft a download page and from there I launched the tool for the update. (Council : read the instructions well)

not even changed the desktop I had in windows 7, all icons in their place:biggrin:

I stubbornly wanted to install win 10 on my, now vetusto, m2400 although it was not yet certified by god.
apart from a problem on the video driver (the brand new one installed with the update planted the laptop after 10 seconds) solved by reinstalling an old driver (2010!) everything works regularly. as soon as the start menus were not working at all, I could only use the text menus with the right button. almost desperate I had decided to reinstall everything with the old so win7 but after a long search on the web I discovered that many had had the same problem (and not only during the update). I found a command that from (awesome) programming mode in dos rebuilt all the menu by reconnecting the installed programs (practically the old registry file had some casinos and the menu had no more links) now everything works great. Taking into account my laptop age was almost crazy, but it went well. good news for those who fear compatibility problems with the past (remote). :

follow the instructions of this article ... the product key will automatically activate if you have a genuine copy of windows 8 or 7.
I didn't create the iso file on dvd, but I chose the option " update the pc now"

during the installation you have to have a lot of patience and never be taken by the doubt that it has stuck (it has to download 6 gb of data before starting..) also the pc will reboot' some times.
to me it took 3 hours to complete the installation, but everything depends on your adsl and the features of your pc.

( adsl 10 mb download / notebook intel i7 2.2 ghz / 8 mb ram / hard drive ssd )

Hello.

after half an hour I had the tool ready for installation.
without worrying about the various backups I clicked on accept and installation is gone.

It took three hours.

once all installed, I unmaned some options, colors etc.
I have restarted the notebook several times and so far no problem.

icons and links are in order.

I have the impression that without my pdecident I could have waited much longer, perhaps too much for having windows 10.
